    Karina Augustus serves as the College of Natural and Agricultural Sciences Career Specialist at the University of California, Riverside. She graduated from California State University, Long Beach with a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and Minor in Spanish. She later earned a Master of Science in Higher Education from California State University, Fullerton. She has worked in both academic and student affairs and has worked in a variety of public institutions. Most recently she earned the Woman of Promise award from the Lakers and CoAmerica Bank for the pioneering work she has done for historically marginalized and undocumented communities. Karina is committed to being a change agent in the field and continuing to create equitable opportunities for students who have historically been underserved and/or underrepresented.

    Guadalupe Saldivar serves as a Business Career Specialist at the University of California, Riverside. She specializes in career development and advising undergraduate students who are studying business and economics. She earned her Bachelor of Business degree from New Mexico State University and a Master of Arts degree in Student Affairs Administration at Michigan State University. Guadalupe is currently a Ph.D. student at Oregon State University in the Adult and Higher Education Ph.D. Program. Her research is focused on examining social mobility among low-income college students. Her work and research strive to identify the ways universities can support students in securing positive employment outcomes. She is a strong advocate for social mobility, income equality, and an expert in supporting college students navigating the workforce to promote career and educational attainment.

    Dean, STEM Academic & Career Community

    Michael currently serves as the Dean of Mathematics and Science within the STEM Academic & Career Community at Chaffey College. Before joining Chaffey in the summer of 2022, he served as the Director of Institutional Support at Growing Inland Achievement (GIA) during the 2021- 22 academic year. In addition to his work with GIA, he has worked for over 20 years in the California Community College system, both as a faculty member and an academic dean. His experience includes cross disciplinary efforts to build student-centered teaching and learning environments, and holistic student support systems to close equity gaps and increase student success and completion in STEM.

    Jennifer McCray

    Associate Research Professor and Principal Investigator Early Math Collaborative, Erikson Institute

    Jennifer McCray is an Associate Research Professor and the Principal Investigator of the Early Math Collaborative at Erikson Institute, a graduate school in child development.  The Collaborative provides professional development in mathematics to early childhood teachers nationally, conducts research on the teaching and learning of early math, and disseminates information through its books, journal publications, newsletter, and website.  Jennifer has run several federally funded projects to develop and assess the effectiveness of professional development.  She is the first author of Growing Math Minds, published by Routledge in 2018, and is the Lead Developer of a Toolkit on teaching math to young children for the Regional Educational Laboratory Appalachia, a program of the Institute for Education Sciences. Jennifer also helps lead the Racial Justice in Early Math project with colleagues from both Erikson and the University of Illinois Chicago.

    This past month the Toward A Shared Vision education summit was held at the Riverside Convention center. It was aimed at bringing education leaders from Inland Southern California together to collaborate and in many cases to put those who come from different colleges and universities or K-12 in the same room to learn how others might be doing the very same job with different results.

    So the Education Insight team set up a recording booth at the two-day event and we pulled a number of local and state leaders in to find out what the shared vision really is and what they agree is good in the Inland Empire as well as what they say needs to be done locally in our schools and colleges.
