The Inland Empire is a metropolitan area east of coastal Southern California, centering around the cities of San Bernardino and Riverside, and bordering Los Angeles County to the west. The bulk of the population is centered in the cities of northwestern Riverside County and southwestern San Bernardino County. Position Overview

This is an outstanding opportunity to play a leading role in the educational and economic improvement throughout San Bernardino and Riverside Counties. Successful candidates will be committed to the mission and overarching goals of GIA and have the executive presence to inspire confidence and passion in both internal and external audiences. The ability to build authentic relationships with a cross-section of high-profile stakeholders in a regional area is required. The President/CEO should be comfortable with the dynamic environment of an organizational partnership and have the ability to thrive in a fluid, interrelated network of collaborators.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, including at least 7 years managing teams in an educational, nonprofit, governmental or business environment.  This person should have a career track record of leading, inspiring and developing high-performance teams along with advanced strategic planning skills including an ability to forecast in the long term.  This would include strong data acumen and the ability to oversee complex shared information systems which make up this collaborative effort.  Fundraising and grant writing experience with demonstrated success in cultivating funder relationships is required along with strong speaking, facilitation and presentation skills.

Podcast Producer and Host for Education Chat

Part-time Paid Internship

Location: Fully Remote

Hours: 10-15 per week

Position Overview:

We are seeking a motivated and talented Paid Student Intern to join our podcast production team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in the creation and production of GIA’s student-focused podcast, “Education Chat.” You will be responsible for conducting research, scheduling and interviewing guests, editing and uploading content, and promoting new episodes. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in content creation and podcast production with a team of experienced professionals.  

The candidate for this position should be very comfortable conducting on-camera interviews and have excellent planning and time management skills. Experience with audio and/or video editing is a plus.  

Responsibilities: 

  • Research and Stay Informed: Conduct research on trending and developing stories in the education sector of interest to students, then utilize that knowledge to develop compelling new show topics and ideas.
  • Planning and Scheduling: Building a schedule of topics and guests and coordinating times for interviews.
  • Writing: Craft compelling and thought-provoking questions for guests and creating a dynamic and engaging plan for discussions.
  • Hosting Conversations: Facilitate insightful conversations with show guests while being recorded on video.
  • Production: Editing video content and collaborating with the GIA communication team to ensure a smooth and well-organized production process and a high level of quality and consistency.

Qualifications:

Position Overview
This position manages and coordinates the regional program operational needs of our partner institutions for the Intermediaries for Scale (IFS) program of institutional transformation support including the following commitments:

  • Institutional Support: support a caseload of local institutions through the IFS process of institutional transformation. Serve as the lead point of communication for individual project teams and campus leads as part of the IFS process.
  • Site Visits: Conduct at least one site visit to each of the assigned institutions of support, including Sensemaking meetings as required.
  • Contract Management: Procure technical assistance bids and manage contracts between institutional partners and technical assistance providers.
  • Evaluation: Working with colleges to standardize student success and institutional success outcomes and data collection, providing analysis, and reporting.
  • Communication and Engagement: Assist with maintaining IFS websites and marketing materials, assisting with developing program content including newsletters, video testimonials, reports, promotional collateral, and content for social media and marketing outreach in collaboration with GIA teams. Make referrals to Action Network Teams (ANTs) and other GIA functions to maximize impact.

This position also works to support other initiatives for institutional support and transformation as needed. These initiatives may include, but are not limited to, areas such as College Promise, College Corps, Guided Pathways, Student Voice, re-enrollment initiatives, and transfer support.

  • Coordination: Coordinate special projects connected with various grants, initiatives, and areas of priority for the region.
  • Collaboration: Works with project and institutional partners to integrate efforts into the GIA network of support.
  • Tracking and Evaluation: Works with colleges to standardize student success and institutional success outcomes and data collection, providing analysis, and reporting. Tracks and monitors progress on initiatives, making recommendations for additional supports and resources.

Position Overview
The Communication Coordinator role is a full-time position responsible for supporting the Director of Communication in executing the communications strategy and plans for Growing Inland Achievement (GIA). Our ideal candidate has work experience that exemplifies their:

Primary Responsibilities

Content Writing/Editing

  • Develop and refine content across four GIA-managed websites, including writing new content, stories, and blog posts.
  • Writing and distributing email content using MailChimp, including eNewsletters, board updates, articles, and other feature stories—ensuring that content connects to existing or new pages on the website.
  • Assist with writing content for key organizational publications, including newsletters, annual reports, brochures, fact sheets, etc.
  • Support GIA Action Network Teams with creating communication materials in support of their tactical plans.
  • Support the planning, creation, and promotion of GIA podcasts.
  • Develop dynamic content for all of GIA’s social media channels and track and continually improve the performance of channels/campaigns.

Public Relations

  • With the Director of Communication, develop public relations strategies for GIA events, research reports, feature stories, and other announcements as needed.
  • Write press releases and send them to appropriate press outlets as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a press list with accurate contact information.
  • Media Production and Publications Schedule and conduct interviews with students and network partners to be used for feature stories, newsletters, websites, press releases, podcasts, blog posts, etc.
  • Assist with maintaining GIA’s photo library by taking photos and contracting with photographers as needed to capture GIA and partner work.
  • Capture and source video content and do basic video editing.
  • Basic visual design work for ads, flyers, brochures, fact sheets, event signage, invitations, etc.

General Communication Operations and Strategy

  • Partner with GIA’s Director of Communication to build a regional communication strategy and campaign plans.
  • Help establish and maintain internal communications to keep GIA staff informed of the organization’s work.
  • Assist GIA’s Director of Communication with supervising, mentoring, and building the skills of the communication internship team.
  • Stay at the cutting edge of communication capabilities, software, trends, and their creative application for organizational communication.
  • Assist in analyzing and reporting the impact of communication on organizational success.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of related work experience in a field relevant to communication, marketing, public relations, or journalism; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to write and edit strategic communications pieces for an organization, including press releases, newsletters, website content, feature stories, etc.
  • Experience using various social media platforms and knowledge of social media engagement strategies.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with other staff, interns, organization partners, and the general public.
  • Ability to juggle many projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a high-energy, fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to stay self-motivated and move work forward under minimal supervision.
  • Experience using website and email content management system(s) preferred.
  • Intermediate photography and videography skills preferred.
  • Intermediate graphic design and photo editing skills preferred.

  • Recruitment: Assisting partner institutions with recruiting Student-Fellows and host partners, the educational and community-based organizations (CBOs), where Student-Fellows will serve. Providing advertising and outreach to students and the broader community regarding the opportunity, including writing and editing website content, developing promotional materials, and creating media strategies to reach target audiences.
  • Training: Coordinating training and ongoing professional development for host partners, as well as leadership training for Student-Fellows.
  • Planning and Development: Serving as the convener and facilitator for planning and development activities, and assisting with the development of performance measures and data collection that meets the needs of our partner institutions, as well as the region as a whole.
  • Evaluation: Working with colleges to standardize student outcomes and data collection, and providing analysis and reporting.
  • Communication and Engagement: Establishing and maintaining a new IE College Corps website (iecollegecorps.org) To host program information, opportunities, and success stories. Assisting with developing program content, including but not limited to newsletters, video testimonials, reports, promotional collateral, and content for social media and marketing outreach.
  • Convenings: Coordinating and facilitating regional college corps meetings and quarterly convenings for colleges to share successes and challenges and determine regional best practices. Coordinating one large annual convening for the Fellows to gather collectively and within their separate categories of service to share experiences, hear from national experts, and share their work with the broader community. Coordinating with GIA’s department of communications, college communication offices, and California Volunteers Marketing and Outreach departments to attract media presence and coverage.

This position reports directly to the Director of Institutional Support.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as liaison and main point of contact between the IE regional College Corp Collaborative, California Volunteers and GIA.
  • When needed, recruit, manage and supervise Fellows, volunteers, and interns, including job training and completing administrative tasks associated with the College Corps program.
  • Maintain and build relationships with college partners, business partners, school staff, volunteers, students, partner organizations, and community members.
  • Work at multiple levels (individual institutions, regional collaborative, state-level) to ensure effective engagement, communication and coordination are occurring for the benefit of the region as a whole.
  • Schedule College Corps components, such as trainings, retreats, collaboration meetings, etc. at college sites.
  • Act as liaison/advocate for the IE region with California Volunteers.
  • Maintain a calendar of events and track the results of the program’s efforts regularly.
  • Develop protocols for the program, including defining community partners’ roles and program component development.
  • Maintain up to date database of all host partners and connections to the IE regional collaborative.
  • Develop and maintain a repository for documents, forms, training and other items.
  • Collect and share evidence-based/best practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date promotional materials and marketing collateral.
  • Write and edit content for the IE College Corps website (iecollegecorps.org).
  • Prepare newsletters, project updates, reports, and other communication materials to distribute to partners and the community.
  • Create content for social media and other digital channels.
  • Attend community outreach events to promote the program’s efforts and recruiting volunteers and potential host sites.
  • Coordinate and plan volunteer training sessions and stakeholder convenings.
  • Coordinate and plan regional consortium meetings and convenings.
  • Oversee data collection and evaluation efforts in partnership with institutions.

Background/Qualifications

  • Ability to interact effectively with multiple program stakeholder groups, including institutional stakeholders, staff, and volunteers.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication.
  • Ability to organize various tasks, meet deadlines, define problems, and pay careful attention to detail.
  • Must have experience in the non-profit and/or higher education sectors, and should have training in data literacy.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid California Driver’s license, and the minimum personal auto liability insurance coverage required under California law and IEUW insurance carriers.
  • Ability to work some evening and weekend hours.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in public administration, communication, business, marketing, or related field preferred.
